And that evolved after the research I carried out on this subject. The freedom that Aldaia Town Council gave me allowed me to choose certain ideas to include in the mural in order to add some social criticism to it. Because Valencian pelota was a totally male-dominated sport until a few years ago when the new women’s competitions were created in the Valencian Community. Taking this fact into account, the mural aims mainly to normalise the image of women practising this sport and to highlight their strengths and values. Coinciding with the dates of International Women’s Day, this mural was used for the March 8th campaign and had repercussions in certain media outlets and social networks. Artist: Josep Roca A young artist born in Aldaia in 1996 he went to Carles Salvador Secondary School in Aldaia, València. He obtained his Artistic Baccalaureate at the Instituto Luis Vives in Valencia and a Degree in Fine Arts at the Universitat Politècnica de València. As awards and recognitions he won the second prize in the graffiti competition for the sports centre of Paiporta (2015), the first prize in the graffiti competition in the city of Bucharest during his Erasmus period in 2016. Third prize in the graffiti competition in Aldaia in the “barranquet”. First prize in the graffiti competition at the IES Carles Salvador secondary school (2013).
